With a clip at the front to lock it into position, The Purefly Inflatable Travel Neck Pillow has a unique and interesting design. Two raised cushions prevent side to side head movement and it packs away conveniently when deflated.
|Material||Flocking PVC exterior|
|Size (regular)||12.6 x 4.3 x 9.8 inches|
The Purefly Inflatable Travel Neck Pillow is unique with it’s raised “cushions” on either side. These cushions are simply an extension of the main bladder of the travel pillow. So although they provide some support, they are still at the mercy of the overall air pressure of the pillow. Purefly recommends that you keep the inflatable pillow at about 3/4 full of air for the most comfortable snooze.
Now in terms of the overall shape of the Purefly Inflatable Travel Neck Pillow, it does provide good support. The pillow gives good neck support, specifically when resting against a head rest or similar. There isn’t much resistance however in forward movement of the head. This could be an issue for light sleepers whose heads tend to tip forward during sleep.
The material is soft and fairly typical of this kind of travel pillow. The flocking PVC does however warm up rather quickly. This might be okay for air conditioned air planes but perhaps a hot bus in the tropics might not be the best choice for this one.
Lastly, the seam of the travel pillow is poorly located on the inside where the neck touches the material. Although there is a “flap” of sorts to help smooth out the ridge, it is still quite annoying. After extended use it can become quite irritating and very noticeable.
Apart from the obvious design flaw mentioned above, the Purefly Inflatable Travel Neck Pillow is cleverly made. There is one valve which is easy to inflate and deflate. It’s a standard pinch and release valve and the air quickly exits once pinched. It will take a few large breaths the first time you inflate it but will become more flexible with time.
The overall shape of the travel pillow is great – making it easy to position. It also comes with a handy clip on the front to tighten the arms of the pillow around your neck. This ensures your head stays relatively still when sitting in an upright position. The valve you use to inflate the pillow can be depressed so it’s not sticking out.
Unfortunately after extended use, there is a chance that the Purefly Inflatable Travel Neck Pillow will deflate on it’s own. This is a risk you take when purchasing an inflatable neck pillow. The longer you own it, the more likely this will occur.
The Purefly Inflatable Travel Neck Pillow folds down really nicely into the bag provided. There is no pump or anything similar for inflation and it’s really not necessary. Once deflated (which is easy to do), the travel pillow fits snugly into a bag the dimensions of a medium sized purse (minus the thickness).
Easy to take with you and will fit in just about any bag. I would have loved to see a carry clip or hook to attach to luggage just to take it to the next lesson.
Value wise I feel that the Purefly Inflatable Travel Neck Pillow is just about right. Lack of official website and conflicting warranty information is a little concerning. However their customer support seems to be on top of things and easy to deal with.
- Very compact when deflated
- Smart design is comfortable and provides support
- Clip on the front of the pillow helps to lock in posture
- Seam that runs along the inside can be irritating
- Gets hot during skin contact
The Purefly Inflatable Travel Neck Pillow would be an amazing product - if it weren't for the ridge that runs along the seam. It's priced well and provides appropriate support. Not suitable for warmer and more humid conditions but otherwise not a bad buy.
