I get so excited when I see something new in the Travel Pillow game! The Dot&Dot Twist Memory Foam Travel Pillow promises to be just that.
Now usually I talk about comfort first. I feel like with this pillow, I need to explain the general design of the pillow first. Imagine a long piece of memory foam, like a snake or one of those pool noodles. Now imagine a flexible network or a bar running through the centre. Cover the memory foam in a machine washable, cotton cover and you have the Twist Memory Foam Travel Pillow.
The Twist Memory Foam Travel Pillow isn’t just a neck pillow. Due to the extreme versatility of the product, it’s great for lumbar support, head support, legs or just about any part of your body. Also great for cars, buses, trains, road trips, camping – truly the most versatile pillow I’ve seen
The real beauty of this travel pillow is that when you mould it into shape, it stays that way. That means it has 1000 uses beyond a simple wrap around neck pillow. There’s a snap closure on either side of the “noodle” that I wish was a bit stronger. I’d love to have something to really lock it in place.
The memory foam is soft and of good quality. It does have a bit an odour (like many memory foam products) that I’m told will go away with time. That’s about it really. Quite a simple and innovative design.
Now I know you’re all begging to know – how comfortable is it?
Let’s start with the memory foam first. It is VERY soft and very pliable. It is quite thin though. This means that the more pressure you apply to the pillow, the closer your get to that solid core. Eventually, you will hit resistance.
You can use the pillow in a lot of different ways. The traditional U shaped neck pillow style is not too bad. If this is all the Twist did I wouldn’t be rating it very highly. The great thing about it though, is as you get tired of one position, you can choose another. Even bending it up onto the window side of the plane and leaning on it is pretty comfortable.
My statement is that the Twist is a jack of all trades travel pillow. That means that is kind of comfortable in 1000 different ways. For some who need a specialised pillow just for neck support or just for lumbar support, it might not do the trick. Others might find themselves with 3 of these pillows, one for each part of their body.
I found in some positions (lying down horizontally) it was hard to get comfortable. The Twist Memory Foam Travel Pillow really benefits when you don’t put too much pressure on it. I almost wish the foam was a bit thicker so the bar was less noticeable. That brings me to my next point…
It is a little bulky! Due to the bar running through the centre of the pillow, you are restricted on how much you can compress it. So what do we do? Do we make the memory foam thicker to make it more comfortable? Or do we make it thinner to make it more portable?
I will say that the clips on either end help you to carry it. You can clip it around a hook or strap on your bag rather easily. It is certainly one of the least portable of the memory foam travel pillows I’ve seen however.
The Twist Memory Foam Travel Pillow is priced quite well. It sits on the lower end of the price spectrum for products which are actually designed and unique. I’ve not seen a model quite like this before and I wander if they have a patent pending. Not only does it have a lot of uses, it’s also great for kids and people with smaller frames.
It’s certainly going to polarize people as I can see it. If it works for you, it’s a bargain. If you don’t like it you can send it back with dot&dot’s 30 day money back guarantee. During my research I noticed some pretty fantastic customer support too which is a big plus.

- Incredibly flexible, easy to use
- Great for adults and kids
- Very versatile – not just for flights. Not just for necks.
- Bar is noticeable underneath foam
- A little heavy and bulky
- The snap closure could be a little stronger
I really don't where to go with this one! Is it great? Do I love it? Or does it just not offer quite enough comfort for one specific position? My verdict is that it's a great pillow that hasn't quite found perfection - yet. Definitely worth a go, especially if other pillows have failed you and you need something you can really get your hands into.
